Mathematics of Grid Computing - 2nd Installment
I've been thinking some more about Nikita's equations, and it occurred to me to expand the system in the following way:
EnterpriseGrid.Next = HPC.Next + EnterpriseApp.Next + WebApp.Next
HPC.Next = ComputeGrid + DataGrid + GlobalCheckpointing + Data-Aware Scheduling
EnterpriseApp.Next = Scalable Stateful Services + Virtualized Resources
WebApp.Next = Scalable Stateful & Stateless Services + Virtualized Resources
Scalable Stateful Services = SOA + Data-Aware Routing + Right-Sizable DataGrid
ComputeGrid
DataGrid
Virtualization
SOA
Ability to scale-out stateless services
The gap:concepts-in-red
GlobalCheckpointing: theoretically well understood, commercial implementations are too few
Data-Aware Routing: supported natively by DataGrid vendors, but not traditional routing infrastructure
Data-Aware Scheduling: theoretically well-understood, commercial implementation are too few
Right-Sizable DataGrids: active area of R&D for many vendors
These "concepts-in-red" should be of prime importance to the community and the focus of active research, development and commercial implementations.
